Why Women Choose The Playful Soul Retreat
An ayahuasca retreat is about far more than the ceremonies themselves. It's about feeling safe enough to surrender, supported enough to grow, and held enough to integrate what unfolds.
At The Playful Soul, we've intentionally created a Women's Ayahuasca Retreat in Costa Rica that nurtures every part of the journey. Healing begins long before you arrive through thoughtful preparation and personal connection. During the retreat, you'll be surrounded by experienced guides, compassionate facilitators, and a circle of women walking alongside you. And when you return home, your journey continues with meaningful integration and an ongoing community of support.
We intentionally keep our retreats intimate because we believe every woman deserves to be seen, heard, and cared for. From the first conversation to the final integration call, every detail is designed with intention so you can focus on what matters most—your healing, your transformation, and your connection with yourself.
Again and again, our guests tell us that while they came seeking the medicine, they left equally grateful for the sisterhood they discovered, the care they received, and the sense of belonging they didn't even realize they had been searching for.

Preparing for the Journey
The Power of Preparation
Long before we gather in Costa Rica, the retreat has already begun. As part of our preparation, we invite each participant to follow a traditional dieta. This practice gently supports the body, quiets the mind, and creates space to receive the wisdom of the medicine with greater clarity and intention. In our busy modern lives, we're constantly taking in stimulation through food, technology, news, and the demands of everyday life. The dieta is an opportunity to simplify, slow down, and begin turning inward before ceremony. Many women find this preparation to be a meaningful part of their healing journey in its own right. We'll provide detailed guidance and support every step of the way so you feel informed, prepared, and confident as you begin. Read more about the dieta →
Your Safety Comes First
Creating a safe, supportive experience is one of our highest priorities. Before acceptance, every participant completes a confidential health screening and reviews all medications, supplements, and medical history with our team. We work closely with experienced and respected shamans and carefully evaluate each application to help ensure the retreat is appropriate for every guest. Certain medications and supplements can interact with ayahuasca and may require adjustments well in advance of the retreat. We always encourage participants to consult their personal healthcare provider before making any changes to prescribed medications, and we are available to answer questions throughout the preparation process. Our intention is for every woman to arrive feeling informed, supported, and cared for from beginning to end.
What to Expect During Ceremony
Ceremony is a sacred and deeply personal experience. We encourage comfortable, breathable clothing made from natural fibers such as cotton or linen, allowing you to move, rest, and feel at ease throughout the evening. Many women choose to wear white or light-colored clothing, though there is no formal dress code. To create a peaceful and supportive environment, we observe noble silence during ceremony, inviting each participant to turn inward and fully honor their own experience while respecting the journeys unfolding around them. You'll receive a detailed packing list before the retreat, along with everything you need to feel prepared and supported when you arrive.
✺ Frequently Asked Questions ✺
-
Ayahuasca has been used ceremonially for generations as a sacred plant medicine that supports healing, self-discovery, and spiritual growth. Women come to ceremony for many different reasons—whether they're seeking greater clarity, healing from life's challenges, reconnecting with themselves, or simply answering a quiet inner calling. Every journey is unique, and we honor each woman's intentions with care and respect.
-
Whether this is your first experience with plant medicine or you've sat in ceremony before, our retreat welcomes women who feel genuinely called to this work. -
Every participant completes a confidential health screening before acceptance. Some medications and supplements are compatible with ceremony, while others require changes or may make participation unsafe. We'll review everything with you and encourage you to work closely with your healthcare provider before making any adjustments.
-
Payments are non-refundable. Should an extenuating circumstance arise, you may use your investment towards a future retreat.
-
We intentionally keep our retreats intimate so every participant receives personal attention, feels supported, and has space to build meaningful connections with the other women in the group. We believe healing happens most powerfully when people feel truly seen, and a smaller group allows us to hold that kind of space with intention and care.
-
We will sit in ceremony for three nights, with each night lasting approximately 6 hours. Our final (and very special!) ceremony will begin at 11pm and last until sunrise. You'll receive a detailed schedule before the retreat so you know exactly what to expect throughout the week.
-
Absolutely. Healing doesn't begin when you arrive in Costa Rica, and it doesn't end when you leave. From your first conversation with our team through retreat preparation, ceremony, integration, and our post-retreat community, we're committed to supporting your journey every step of the way.
